What can a dermal filler do?

Dermal fillers are used to provide fullness and volume in areas of the face to achieve a youthful, natural looking enhancement.  As a part of our natural ageing process we lose volume in our bones and supporting structures under the skin.  When it comes to the face, this is particularly noticeable in the cheeks, lips, tear troughs, and naso-labial folds.  Dermal fillers can be used to re-volumise and hydrate these areas of loss.  They can also be used to enhance the same areas to achieve a natural looking rejuvenation.

This is a non surgical method of enhancing facial structure.  The treatments are entirely reversible and there is always the option to dissolve filler.

Depending on the type of filler and its thickness, results last for 6-24 months.  At this point the filler is naturally broken down internally and is removed from the body.

Tear trough filler

Tear troughs lie just below the eyes.  They are a hollow concavity which is responsible for creating the appearance of dark circles or bags under the eyes.  With age, this can make the face look tired and sunken.

Filling this region requires an advanced and experienced practitioner.  As the skin in this region is so thin, over filling this area can give a puffy look.  Dr Tarek Shalabi uses an advanced technique with a high grade soft and thin filler running from the upper cheek to under eye eliminating the trough, reducing that hollowed or bags appearance.  This is a method which requires a delicate touch and the ability to know when to stop filling.  It is also commonly referred to as a non-surgical blepharoplasty. Patients often comment that they look like they’ve ‘had a week of sleep’.  Dr Tarek finds this to be a very satisfying procedure to perform as it really improves the confidence of the patients.

This procedure takes approximately 20 minutes, and a topical numbing cream is used.  Occasionally some bruising can occur which clears within a few days. Results are instant and once the filler has cross-linked over 2 weeks they reach the optimum look.  Due to the delicate and thin nature of the product, results last for 6-9 months, as thinner filer breaks down quicker.

Cheek filler

As we know, with time the volume in our cheeks and face tend to deflate causing a flattened look. Furthermore, as volume is lost in the cheeks, the scaffolding holding the skin becomes weaker and the skin below tends to sag and become less elastic.  Over the years, this process tends to give the face an aged and almost skeletal appearance.

This filler is injected into the area around the cheeks but personalised with a look to suit the structure of your face. It provides a subtle lift to the face and also changes the way that light reflects on the face. By filling the mid face, the lower part of the face will start to look smaller giving a heart shaped face which is very attractive to the eye.  Patients love cheek filler, as it instantly gives a younger, happier and subtly sculpted look to the face.

Remember everyone is different and someone may need more or less volume in different areas to other. One size does not fit all, and the treatment is finely tailored to the individual patient to.  During the procedure, Dr Tarek will regularly pause, assess and discuss with the patient in order to get an optimum result.  Dr Tarek aims for a final look which will be both subtle and striking.

This procedure is usually completed within 30 minutes, with a small amount of bruising expected to clear within 3-5 days.  A pharmaceutical grade topical numbing cream is used before the procedure. Results are instant (peaking within 2 weeks) and generally last 12-24 months depending on the product used.  This is a procedure which we often pair with tear trough filler for suitable patients.

Naso-labial fold and marionette lines filler

This refers to the lines that start next to the nose and extend down to the corners of the mouth. Adding some volume in this region at the top softens these lines reducing their appearance and widening the smile.  This treatment is often paired with cheek filler which provides a subtle lift to further reduce the folds.
