If you would like to know if your mole is suitable for cosmetic removal or talk through any aspect of our cosmetic mole procedure, you are welcome to book a 30 minute complimentary consultation with Dr Tarek.
It’s important to rule out skin cancer before undertaking a cosmetic mole removal treatment. Dr Tarek Shalabi holds a certificate in dermoscopy from the Australiasian College of Dermatologists and will be happy to examine your mole with a dermascope to exclude a suspicious lesion before proceeding with treatment. Should your mole raise any suspicion, Dr Tarek will offer a biopsy of the lesion on the day should you wish to do this.
At Cosmetic Doctor Brisbane, our primary concern is your health and wellbeing; we highly recommend you get regular skin cancer checks with your GP or dermatologist.
During our cosmetic mole removal treatments, Dr Tarek uses an instrument that uses radio frequency to create a current within the desired cells. This current causes a form of vaporisation.
Dr Tarek uses this device to finely vaporise layers of the mole until it lies flush with the surrounding skin. The machine that we use is so precise that it creates minimal damage to the surrounding tissues, and therefore leaves minimal signs of swelling or bruising.
The procedure is all completed under local anaesthetic.
You will have a superficial wound following your procedure. This will resemble a deep graze. You will then be given tailored post-care instructions, which may vary depending on the size and location of your lesion.
Dr Tarek also provides 3 x complimentary microneedling treatments at 6-week intervals following your treatment to help blend the new skin with your original skin that surrounds the treatment area.
If you have some anxiety over what to expect on the day of your treatment, understanding the process can help alleviate your pre-procedure stress and help you feel more prepared.
Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect on the day of your cosmetic mole removal treatment.
Taking care of yourself after a cosmetic mole removal procedure is just as important as the procedure itself. We advise our patients to avoid makeup, hot saunas, high-intensity exercise, and excessive alcohol for 12 hours after their procedure. It’s important to follow this advice, and any other aftercare instructions we give you before, during and after our clinic. If you have any questions at all about aftercare following your procedure, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
We will also book a two-week follow up appointment with you to ensure you experience the best cosmetic outcomes possible for your procedure and to ensure that everything is looking as it should with the treatment area.
Infection is a risk with mole removal treatments. However, this is greatly reduced by using a radiofrequency technique instead of a scalpel or knife technique. The radiofrequency leaves the wound sterile, and at our clinic, we also use an antibacterial ointment on the wounds following your procedure to keep the wound soft and clean.
Despite the technique used by Dr Tarek carrying the lowest risk for scarring, potential scarring is still a risk factor to consider.
This risk of scarring is higher if you have previously had ‘keloid’ or ‘hypertrophic’ scarring.
Often how you have healed following previous wounds is a good indicator of how you will respond in the future.
Dr Tarek also provides 3 complimentary microneedling treatments at 6-week intervals to leave the area looking more homogenous and fresh.
As mentioned earlier, we highly recommend getting your moles checked for potential skin cancers in a full body skin cancer check before beginning the process of cosmetic mole removal.
Dr Tarek Shalabi uses a radio frequency device known as the ‘Elman Surgitron’ for all of his cosmetic mole removals. This device is considered the ‘gold standard’ by specialist cosmetic doctors in the field of mole removals, as it is extremely precise and can remove skin lesions without the need for a scalpel or knife.
No stitches are needed with the process that we use at Cosmetic Doctor Brisbane, which utilises a high-performing and safe radio frequency device known as the ‘Elman Surgitron’. Healing with this process is much quicker than other methods, and it is considered a scarless mole removal treatment.
It’s important to note here that methods vary from clinic to clinic. If you are considering undergoing a treatment at another clinic, it’s always recommended to do your research on the methodology and equipment used and expected outcomes, before deciding on a treatment option.
The Elman Surgitron technique uses a radiofrequency device which has a vaporisation effect, gently removing layers of the mole until the skin surface is even. This technique minimises damage to surrounding tissues, which results in reduced scarring and a quicker healing process.
We use this procedure because it presents a safe and efficient treatment for our patients, and we complete this under local anaesthetic for your comfort.
The Surgitron is different to laser mole removal procedures, because it uses radio frequency instead of a laser. The use of the radio frequency device allows the skin doctor to precisely target cells with greater control, and without needing to use a traditional scalpel or knife.
The entire procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort. Most patients report minimal to no discomfort during the procedure.
The healing process varies from person to person, but typically, you can expect the treated area to heal fully within 1–2 weeks. We offer detailed aftercare instructions to facilitate a smooth recovery and ensure the best possible results.
Yes, it can. The Surgitron’s precision and control make it suitable for treating moles anywhere on the body, including facial moles. The device’s ability to leave minimal scarring makes it especially ideal for treating visible areas such as the face.
