WHY PATIENTS CONSIDER UNDER EYE FILLER TREATMENTS
Under eye is one of the trickiest areas to conceal using make up, and under eye filler can greatly assist with restoring volume loss in this area. Expert placement of a filler in the region can hydrate the area and project the region of depression under the eye. Results are instant, reversible and can be adjusted according to your goals and desires.
Many patients who choose to have tear trough filler treatments do so to:
- Reduce the signs of tiredness (such as dark circles)
- Reduce the signs of ageing
- Lift and rejuvenate the under-eye area

HOW DR TAREK ENSURES YOU GET THE BEST POSSIBLE UNDER EYE FILLER PROCEDURE
Dr Tarek utilises a safe injecting technique using a series of specifically selected injection points suited to your own anatomy in order to deliver a result which looks natural. He uses different techniques depending on the type of tear trough you have in order to reverse the cause of the tear trough. The areas where volume may either be reduced genetically or over time with age include the sub-orbicularis occuli orbital fat pad (SOOF) and the orbital malar ligament (ORL). Based on how these structures sit on your individual anatomy, Dr Shalabi may recommend a combination of different density fillers in these areas of the tear trough to provide the most natural looking result. In addition to injecting filler, Dr Shalabi also uses microcannula subscision to further increase collagen production and the skin boosting properties of filler in the area.
“Under eye filler can be performed incorrectly with unnecessarily large volumes of filler which can leave patients with a puffy, swollen under eye region. I use relatively small quantities of soft filler in specific anatomically defined points alongside microcannula techniques to minimise trauma to the area combined with some structural correction to provide a natural looking result” — Dr Tarek Shalabi.
Dr Tarek Shalabi’s Key Principles for Tear Trough Filler
- Personalised Anatomical Approach: Tailoring tear trough filler to your unique facial structure
- Versatile Filler Options:Utilising a combination of different density fillers for optimal results
- Microcannula Subcision Technique: Minimising trauma and stimulating collagen production with advanced methods
- Structural Correction Strategy: Addressing the anatomical cause of tear troughs with targeted filler support
UNDERSTANDING THE MICROCANNULA SUBCISION TECHNIQUE FOR TEAR TROUGH FILLER
Dr Tarek uses an advanced microcannula subsicion technique for tear trough filler which reduces trauma to the area, stimulates collagen and is more comfortable than a traditional needle.
- Microcannula Design: A microcannula is a small, flexible tube with a blunt tip. The design of the microcannula allows for atraumatic insertion into the skin, which is key to reducing tissue damage and bruising. Dr Tarek uses one of the thinnest microcannulas available for dermal filler.
- Subcision Process:
- Entry Point: The process begins with the creation of a small entry point in the skin, using a fine needle. This entry point is often made at a site that is strategically chosen to be away from the direct treatment area.
- Insertion and Navigation: The microcannula is then inserted through this point. Due to its blunt tip and flexibility, it can be navigated under the skin with less risk of puncturing blood vessels or causing significant tissue trauma.
- Tissue Separation: As the microcannula moves under the skin, it separates the fibrous bands that tether the skin to underlying structures. This subcision technique is generally very well tolerated by patients.
- Collagen Stimulation and Healing: The movement of the microcannula under the skin not only allows for precise placement of fillers but also stimulates collagen production. The gentle separation of tissue encourages the body’s natural healing process, leading to rejuvenation and improvement in skin texture and volume.
- Advantages in Tear Trough Treatment:
- Reduced Risk of Bruising and Swelling: Since blood vessels are less likely to be damaged, there is a significant reduction in bruising and swelling post-procedure.
- Enhanced Precision and Safety: The flexibility and blunt tip of the microcannula allow for more precise placement of the filler, reducing the risk of complications.
- Improved Comfort: Patients often report less discomfort during and after the procedure compared to traditional needle injections.
- Filler Application: After the subcision, the filler is delivered through the microcannula. Its flexible nature allows the Dr Tarek to fan, cross-hatch, or linear-thread the filler through a single insertion point, ensuring an even and smooth distribution.
